FAQ

Do you have experience working with Special Education Needs (SEN)?
Yes, I have experience of working with students with the following difficulties: autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), dyslexia and dyspraxia. An extract of a recommendation from a student with difficulties is below:

“Laura would always ensure the paper used was colour as I am dyslexic.”

Can you provide proof of qualifications?
Yes, I am more than happy to bring certificates and transcripts to our first meeting.

Do you have the appropriate checks to work with children?
I have an up to date disclosure stating no criminal convictions.

How many lessons would you recommend for my child per week?
Every student is unique and amending the schedule to fit the student’s needs is common. As a guide, I recommend no less than two lessons per week for Year 10 and above, and at least one hour every other week for younger years. Longer 1.5 hour sessions are recommended for groups of 2 or 3 and it is advantageous to continue through the Summer period if you are aware of an exam in November.

What areas do you cover?
Areas covered include Pontypool, Cwmbran, Newport, Cardiff, Blaenavon, Caldicot. Locations further out may require two consecutive slots (for travel). Locations where this is known include Blaenavon, Caldicot and Cardiff. Lessons are currently being conducted online as we practice social distancing. This means that all areas are eligible. Clients in locations outside of my radius will be offered the opportunity to continue tuition online following our return to normality.

What levels do you teach?
My specialism is GCSE, however, I have experience teaching Year 1 to Masters level. You can read more About Me here.

When should I hire a tutor?
The moment you are concerned your child is falling behind in school. Intervention before exam age can fortify the basics and allow the student to build their knowledge in school. National Test reports, assessments and parents’ evening should give a good representation of student performance. Click here to read an article outlining this. I also tutor over-achievers who wish to be challenged out of the school environment.

Where do you conduct the lessons?
Most frequently at the client’s home. However, if you have an alternative request please get in touch and I will try to accommodate you.
